A calculator on the outside

It does the math. Your PIN opens it.

Stash opens as a calculator that really calculates. Type your secret PIN and the vault opens. You can also give it the look of a step tracker or a puzzle game, with a matching app icon.

Photos, videos and any file

Photos, videos, files. One quiet place.

Import photos and videos from your library, or PDFs, documents and audio from Files. Sort them into albums and keep private text in secure notes.

Encrypted on your iPhone

AES-256. On your iPhone.

Every item is encrypted on the device with AES-256 before it is saved. The key stays in the iOS Keychain, and there is no Stash server that receives your files.

Guest PIN

A second PIN. A second vault.

A second PIN opens a separate guest vault that holds only what you put there. Your main vault stays closed.

Intruder photo

Wrong PIN. Photo taken.

Turn it on and Stash takes a front-camera photo when someone enters a wrong PIN. The photo is encrypted and kept in your vault.

Backup you control

Your backup. Your cloud.

Optional encrypted backup to your own iCloud Drive or Google Drive, started by you, plus a recovery key in case you forget your PIN.

A photo vault app that does not look like one

Most people do not need a vault for everything. They need a place for the few things that should not appear when they hand their phone to a friend, show a colleague a picture, or let a child play a game: ID scans, medical documents, a surprise, private photos. Stash keeps those out of your Photos library, behind a separate PIN, inside an app that looks like a calculator.

Start with what your iPhone already has

iOS has a locked Hidden album, locked notes and a way to hide apps. For many people that is enough, and our guides show those steps first: how to hide photos on iPhone, how to lock photos on iPhone and where hidden photos are. The Hidden album opens with the same passcode or Face ID as your phone. If you want a second, different code, or a vault that keeps files out of the Photos library, that is where Stash fits.

How it works

  1. Install Stash and set your secret PIN. Save the recovery key it shows you.

  2. Open the vault from the calculator by typing your PIN, then import photos, videos or files.

  3. Delete the originals from Photos or Files, and empty Recently Deleted.

  4. Optional: set a guest PIN, turn on intruder photos, Face ID and auto-lock.

Stash is free to download. Premium is available as a subscription (the annual plan starts with a 7-day free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase (59.99 in the German App Store; price varies by country). The guest PIN, intruder photos, cloud backup, the step-tracker and game looks and storage beyond the free limit need Premium. Stash runs on iPhone and iPad (iOS 13 or later).

What Stash is not

Stash is a privacy tool for your own files. It is not a replacement for a strong device passcode, and it is not designed to hide things from someone who has a right to see them or to withstand a forensic examination of your phone.

FAQ

What is a calculator photo vault?

An app that looks like a calculator and opens a private vault when you type a secret code. Stash is one: the calculator works for real sums, and your PIN opens the vault for photos, videos and files.

Is Stash free?

Stash is free to download. Premium is a subscription (the annual plan starts with a 7-day free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase (59.99 in the German App Store; price varies by country).

Can the developer see my photos?

No. Stash is zero-knowledge by design: files are encrypted on your iPhone and the key stays in the iOS Keychain. Stash has no server for your files, so the developer cannot see, scan or recover them.

What happens if I forget my PIN?

Use the recovery key Stash shows you during setup. Without the PIN or the recovery key the vault cannot be opened, by you or by anyone else, so store the key somewhere safe.

Do the photos stay in my camera roll?

Importing copies a photo into the vault. Delete the original in Photos and empty Recently Deleted if you want the vault copy to be the only one.

Does Stash replace my iPhone passcode?

No. Nothing replaces a strong device passcode. Stash adds a second lock for the things you choose; it is not a defence against someone who controls your unlocked phone and knows your PIN, or against forensic analysis of the device.
