A Keepsafe alternative for iPhone
·Written by the developer of Stash
Stash is a Keepsafe alternative for iPhone that hides photos, videos and files behind a working calculator and keeps them encrypted on your device. This page compares the two fairly: what each one says about itself, and where you should check Keepsafe's own pages.
Disclosure: we make Stash. Facts about Keepsafe come from its website, getkeepsafe.com, as read on 2 October 2026. We have not tested Keepsafe, and its features may have changed; please check its current pages.
What Keepsafe says it does
- Lock: its website says it locks photos, videos and documents behind a PIN code that only you know.
- Backup and sharing: its website says it backs up your photos privately and lets you share them selectively with contacts you choose.
- Platforms: iPhone and Android, according to its website.
- Everything else (biometric unlock, a calculator-style version, decoy or intruder features, plans and prices): see Keepsafe's own website and App Store listing.
If cloud backup across iPhone and Android is your priority, those points favour Keepsafe.
What Stash does
- Calculator disguise built in: Stash opens as a calculator that really calculates. Your secret PIN opens the vault. Premium adds step-tracker and puzzle-game looks with matching icons.
- Encrypted on your iPhone: photos, videos, PDFs, documents and audio are encrypted on the device with AES-256; the key stays in the iOS Keychain.
- No Stash server: the developer never receives your files and cannot open them. Backup to your own iCloud Drive or Google Drive is optional and encrypted.
- Guest PIN (Premium): a second PIN opens a separate guest vault with only what you put there.
- Intruder photos (Premium): after a wrong PIN, the front camera takes a photo that is stored encrypted in your vault.
- Recovery key: shown once at setup, for a forgotten PIN.
- Price: free to download; Premium as a subscription (the annual plan starts with a 7-day free trial) or a one-time lifetime purchase (59.99 in the German App Store; price varies by country).

Who should pick which
- Keepsafe if you want backups handled by the vault provider, or you use Android too.
- Stash if you want one app that looks like a calculator, keeps files encrypted on your iPhone and only goes to the cloud when you choose, in your own account.
Either way, try the free built-in options first: the Hidden album and locked notes. And keep a strong device passcode; no vault app replaces it.
Moving from Keepsafe to Stash
- In Keepsafe, move the photos you want to keep back to your Photos library (Keepsafe's own help pages describe the current steps).
- Install Stash, set your PIN and save the recovery key.
- Import the photos into Stash and check that they open.
- Delete the copies from Photos and empty Recently Deleted.
